Pro tip: after my 30th blind date at 37, I finally stopped trying so hard and met my wife
I went on 30 blind dates between 2019 and 2022, mostly setups from coworkers and a few apps. Date 12 was a guy who talked about his ex for 90 minutes at a diner in Denver, and date 22 showed up 45 minutes late with no apology. My friend set me up with her cousin, and I almost said no because I was so burnt out on the whole thing. But we met for coffee at a place in Boulder, and we just talked about dumb stuff like our favorite gas station snacks for 3 hours. We've been married for 8 months now, and I still think about how different that night felt from all the other ones. Anyone else have a number where they almost quit dating completely?
The burnout part is what gets me. I hit that wall around date 18 or so, and looking back, I think that was actually the turning point. Once I stopped treating every meetup like a job interview with a checklist, the whole thing felt lighter. I showed up to the last few dates with zero plans for the future, just there to see if the conversation went anywhere. Ironically, that is when it worked. Pressure makes people act weird, and I was definitely the weird one for a while.
