Am I the only one who thinks you should NOT split the bill on a blind date

Went on a blind date 3 weeks ago at a diner in Fresno and when the check came she said we should split it right down the middle. I had ordered a 9 dollar burger and water, she got the 22 dollar salmon plate plus two glasses of wine. My half came to 31 bucks with tip. I paid it because I did not want to make it weird, but here is my hot take that everyone argues with me about: if you invited the person out and you picked the spot, you should just pay. Not because of old rules or whatever, but because it kills the awkward math at the table. I have been on 5 blind dates and the two that went best were the ones where the guy or girl just grabbed the bill with no discussion. The splitting thing turns a fun night into a business lunch. So tell me honestly, am I wrong here or is the split the bill thing not as normal as people keep telling me?
