Tried to hang a 40 pound mirror on drywall anchors, now I need a new mirror
Last Saturday I bought this big antique mirror at a flea market in Austin for 60 bucks. Got it home and decided to mount it over the sofa in the living room. I used those plastic drywall anchors from the hardware store, the kind that come in the little blue pack. Did the whole drill and tap thing, felt solid at first. Went to grab coffee, came back, and the whole thing was on the floor. Mirror shattered into like 50 pieces, plus it put a crack in the wall behind it. Turns out the plaster in my 1920s house is too crumbly for those anchors to grab. Now I'm staring at a blank wall and a pile of jagged glass. Anyone else dealt with old wall materials that refuse to hold anything heavier than a picture frame?
