TIL my hallway wall had a fake panel hiding a weird old safe

Found it last month while drilling for a shelf bracket, the drywall sounded hollow behind the linen closet, so I popped the trim off and there's a 14 inch steel safe bolted into the studs, and now I have no idea if I should cover it back up or build art around it, has anyone else dealt with a secret wall compartment like this?

Did you check inside the safe before deciding what to do with it? That's the real question here, because if it's empty you can just paint over it, but if there's something in there it changes everything. I'd grab a flashlight and see what's hidden before you commit to covering it back up.
