The framer who talked me out of a gallery wall
I spent three months planning a gallery wall for my hallway, measured every frame, bought the matting, even laid it all out on the floor. Then the guy at the local framing shop in Akron looked at my setup photo and said, that's a lot of stuff competing with your door trim. He suggested one big piece instead, something with negative space. I thought he was nuts, but I tried a single 36 by 48 canvas with a thin black border. It took me one afternoon to hang, cost less than the six frames I'd collected, and honestly the hallway feels twice as open. Now every time I look at a blank wall, I ask myself if I'm adding decoration or just noise. Has anyone else been talked out of a cluster and ended up happier with one solid piece?
