Showerthought: I paid $17 for a laser level just to hang 3 frames in my hallway, and half of me says it was the best money I ever spent while the other half says a pencil and a friend's eyeball would've done the same job.
My hallway has been bare since we moved in 14 months ago, so I finally bought a cheap laser level at Harbor Freight, and now I'm stuck wondering if the $17 was genius or a total waste, so tell me: did a cheap tool actually rescue your blank wall project or did you toss it in a drawer after one use?

Wait, calling it a Harbor Freight level is a little off. You said cheap laser level, and Harbor Freight sells like four or five different ones, so which one matters here. The $17 one is usually the little self leveling cross line thing, and yeah that thing is fine for hanging frames, but the actual Harbor Freight part is not why it worked. A laser level of any brand would do the same job for you. The real win is that a laser shows you level across the whole wall at once, so your three frames line up with each other instead of each one being level on its own but sitting at a different height. A pencil and a friend's eyeball cannot do that no matter how good the friend's eyes are. So the $17 was not a waste, but the drawer thing is real too, mine sits there for months until I need it again.
