Rant: Symmetry is overrated, but I just figured out why

For 6 months I centered every frame on my living room wall, measuring twice and even using a laser level. My buddy came over last Saturday and said it looked like a waiting room, too stiff. He pushed the big canvas 4 inches left over the couch and left the small one alone, suddenly the whole corner felt alive. Now I'm debating whether this was a one-off fluke or if I should ditch symmetry everywhere, including my stairwell. Anyone else had a moment where breaking the obvious rule made more sense, or am I just chasing chaos that'll look messy in a week?
