That Wednesday I had 4 straight forge welds fail on me back to back

Took me until the fifth try to realize I was rushing the heat and not letting the steel soak long enough, anyone else find forge welding way more temperamental on humid days?

Yeah humidity is a real killer for forge welds in my experience. Had the same thing happen in my shop last summer where three welds in a row just fell apart on me. Taking that extra time to let the steel soak properly makes all the difference, especially when the air is thick with moisture.

Used to swear humidity didn't matter that much until I moved shops and started having welds fail left and right. Took a while to figure out it was the moisture in the air making everything fussy. Ever notice how flux seems to boil off faster when it's muggy out?
