That old anvil I almost passed on turned out to be a gem
A few years back at an estate sale in Ohio I spotted a beat up Peter Wright anvil for 150 bucks. It looked terrible but after cleaning off the rust and checking the face I realized it had hardly any wear. Has anyone else found a good deal on something that looked rough at first?

Read somewhere that those Peter Wrights are getting harder to find" - I see that said a lot but it really depends where you look. I've found three decent ones in the last two years just checking farm auctions and craigslist postings nobody else bothered with. They take some work but the good ones are still out there if you're willing to dig through the junk.
