Stay away from cheap firebrick for your forge lining

I tried using some low-budget firebrick from a hardware store last month and it started cracking after three uses. Switched to proper hard firebrick from a supplier and it holds heat way better with no crumbling. Has anyone else had problems with the cheap stuff messing up their forge temps?

Honestly, @patricia_lee you put into words something I've been noticing more and more. It's like how everyone at my coffee shop rushes to get the mug with the little chip in the rim, not the perfect ones. Or how my neighbor won't replace his dented mailbox because he says it gives the street 'history.' We're all just quietly choosing the beat up stuff because it feels more ours than a blank, perfect version of it ever could.
