Split between a coal forge and a propane one, and I keep second guessing myself
Been running a little propane forge in my garage for 2 years and finally had $600 saved up to either buy a used coal forge off a guy in Cleveland or put it toward a bigger propane setup. Went with the propane because my neighbor already complained once about smoke, and now I'm watching guys online talk about how much better coal is for welding heat and feeling dumb. Did I just waste my shot or is propane fine for most of what a hobby guy does?
Wait, what are you actually trying to make though? Cause if you're just doing hooks, tongs, and the odd knife then propane covers 95% of that and you can actually see your work without squinting through coal smoke. But if you're dead set on forge welding damascus all day then yeah, coal gets hotter and you're gonna feel it.
