Spent $80 on a fancy forge burner kit that was garbage

Bought this pre-assembled ribbon burner from some online shop and it flared out like a torch instead of heating even. Had to scrap it and build my own from pipe fittings for $25. Anyone else get burned by those overpriced kits?

Did you try drilling out the jet holes a bit to fix the flame?

Man that's a classic case of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' but backwards, seems like everyone's first instinct is to make things worse before just cleaning or replacing the simple part.
