Shoutout to the old guy at the flea market who sold me a bent punch

I was working on a scroll end in my garage and the tip just snapped off, leaving a piece stuck in the hardy hole. The guy saw my frustration, took the punch, heated the shank with a torch and tapped it straight on his truck bumper. Anyone know a better way to fix a mushroomed tool without a proper forge nearby?

Quick field repair? More like a quick way to get someone hurt. That bumper trick is a total hack job. It might hold for a minute but it fails when you actually need it. You're better off doing it right the first time instead of trusting some old shortcut.
