Pro tip: Verify anvil authenticity before buying online

I got scammed by a fake anvil listed as real last week. The surface chipped off after a few light hits. More of these fakes are showing up on marketplaces now. Look for missing brand stamps or paint hiding bad metal. Good anvils have a bright sound and bounce a hammer back. Ask sellers for a video hitting it with a ball bearing. Save your money and avoid my mistake.

I always thought the ball bearing test was overkill, but seeing a buddy's anvil crumble changed my mind. That trick about the bright sound and bounce is real. A real anvil has a certain ring to it that a cheap cast iron fake just can't match. Now I wouldn't buy one without hearing it first.

Ever think we're just judging really heavy bells, @uma_rodriguez50?
