Overheard a guy say forge welds are just fancy glue
Was at the county fair demo last Saturday and this older smith told a kid that. In my experience, it's more about getting the oxides out and timing the heat right, not sticky stuff. Anyone else get tired of that comparison or is it just me?

People do the same thing with welding itself, calling it just hot glue for metal, but the whole point is the molecular bond, not the filler. It’s like saying a carpenter just staples wood together, sure you can fake it, but the real stuff holds up different when things get stressed. Funny how we oversimplify the trades until we actually need them to work right.
