My coal forge took 3 hours to get lit and I think the old guys are wrong about fire starters
Everyone in my local guild in Dayton keeps saying to use newspaper and kindling and skip the fire starters. I fought with that setup for 3 hours on a humid Saturday before I got a stable fire going, and I burned through half a bag of charcoal just keeping it alive. I'm not saying I'm right, but I'm starting to think the old guys like the ritual more than the result. What's your actual go-to method for getting a coal fire going fast?
