My anvil fell off the stump mid-hammer and hit my foot

I was out in my backyard shed last Tuesday working on a little fire poker project. Got into a good rhythm hammering away when suddenly my anvil tipped right off the stump and landed flat on my left foot. I had it strapped down but the strap slipped loose somehow. Took me a good 5 minutes of hopping around and swearing before I could sit down and take my boot off. My foot was purple but nothing was broken, luckily I was wearing steel toes. Anyone else ever had their anvil try to take them out mid-strike?

You know what, I used to be one of those people who thought having a perfectly balanced anvil was just for fancy blacksmiths on YouTube. I'd see people fussing over their anvil setups and roll my eyes like whatever, just get to work. But after reading your story, that's crazy. That strap slipping loose is a nightmare scenario I never even thought about. I've been running mine on a pretty janky stand for years now and never worried about it tipping, but now I'm going to go double check everything tomorrow. Glad your toes are okay, that purple foot story gave me a good honest wince though.

At least you know your anvil is properly balanced now.
