I was wrong about those Japanese water stones for sharpening tools.

Always thought they were just expensive hype for knife guys. Tried a friend's 1000-grit King stone on my old drawknife. The edge was stupid sharp, like cut air sharp. Anyone using them on forging tools or just for finishing?

Oh, you've seen the light! Those King stones are great, but they're actually considered a budget option in the water stone world. The really expensive hype is for brands like Shapton or Naniwa. I've used a 1000/6000 combo King for years on my chisels. It works perfectly fine for forging tools, too, especially for that final clean edge before honing.

Huh, I always thought King stones were the fancy ones.
