I think propane forges are overrated for what most of us actually do
I used a coal forge for about 8 years before I finally gave in and bought a propane one three years ago. Everyone online kept saying propane was cleaner, easier, more controllable. And yeah, it is cleaner. But after actually running it for a while I found myself missing the heat control I had with coal. With propane I feel like I'm fighting the gas pressure or the regulator to get the right spot. With coal I just moved the metal around the fire. Maybe it's just what I'm used to but has anyone else gone back to coal after trying propane?

Man you're making it sound like a life crisis lol. Its a forge not a marriage. I switched from coal to propane a few years back and honestly couldnt care less about the "heat control" debate. If I need a precise spot I just move my work around the flame or tweak the regulator a little. Took me maybe two days to get used to it. People act like you gotta be a master blacksmith to run a propane forge but its literally just turning a knob.

Yeah my buddy Dave got his arm hair singed off trying to adjust a coal forge and never looked back.
