I finally figured out why my tong reins kept cracking at the bend

I was drawing them out too thin and quenching them hot, which left them brittle. Has anyone else had this happen and found a better way to cool them?

Oh man, that reminds me of when I tried to make my own garden trowel. Totally warped the metal by cooling it wrong. Had to just start over.
