I dropped $200 on a power hammer attachment and now I'm split on it

Tbh I bought one of those cheap hammer attachments for my press last month, thinking it would save me time on drawing out stock. For the first few days it worked great, flattened a 1 inch bar in like 5 minutes. But then I noticed it was leaving weird marks from the uneven striking, and now I'm scared it's messing up my anvil face too. Anyone else try these budget hammer tools and regret it, or did I just get a bad one?

Nah that commenter is way off base. Those cheap hammer attachments are basically a gamble, and it sounds like you got a bad one. The uneven striking is a known issue with the budget stuff because the springs and bearings are just not made to the same standard. I tried one myself and had the same problem with weird marks on the steel after a few uses. It actually messes with your timing if you're used to a good power hammer. You should definitely check your anvil face for any damage, those uneven hits can leave dents over time. Better off saving up for a real tool or just sticking to hand hammering for now.
