Can we talk about how a simple angle iron jig saved me from a whole afternoon of rework?

I spent way too long trying to freehand a bunch of matching brackets for a gate last week, then threw together a 3-dollar piece of angle iron as a stop and it lined up every single one perfect, has anyone else found a random scrap that turned into a go-to tool?

Hang on, did you just clamp that angle iron to your drill press table or were you using it as a fence on a bench grinder? I need to know the actual setup because I've got a pile of half-finished gate brackets sitting here mocking me. I keep overthinking the whole process, trying to get fancy with digital angle finders and shims, but your story makes me think I'm just making it harder on myself. A simple stop should work fine as long as the material is square to start with, right? Or am I missing something about how much pressure it takes to keep the piece from rotating off that 90 degree corner when you hit it with the grinder?

Not gonna lie, half the time I just eyeball it and call it good enough.
