After 8 years using a coal forge I finally switched to propane last fall

I had a old coal forge I picked up at an auction for $75. It worked fine but I got tired of dealing with the ash and smoke, especially during winter when I couldn't open the garage door. A buddy of mine switched to propane and let me try his setup for a weekend. I bought a used propane forge from a guy near Omaha for $200 and it's been way easier to control the heat. Anyone else make the switch and find it worth it for small projects?

Used to be one of those guys who swore coal was the only real way to heat metal... pretty stubborn about it actually. Then my old forge finally rusted through and I borrowed a friend's propane burner for a weekend project. Changed my mind real quick when I didn't have to babysit the fire or wait forever to get an even heat. Now I don't miss the mess one bit, especially when it's cold out and I can just flip a switch.

Yeah not babysitting the fire is a game changer for sure, keeps your hands free for the actual work.
