Why does nobody talk about the first 3 episodes of Dark Matter?

I used to skip any show that didn't grab me in the first 10 minutes. Then my buddy in Portland kept pushing Dark Matter on Apple TV, and I bailed after episode 2, called it boring. He made me promise to watch episode 3 with him, and that's where the whole thing flipped for me. It's the episode where Jason's alternate self calls his own son and you realize the timeline math isn't just a gimmick, it's the whole point. I was sitting on his couch at 11pm and suddenly I couldn't stop, we watched 5 more that night. Has anyone else given a show a second chance because of one specific scene someone insisted on?
