Why does nobody mention the 4 minute rule for deciding if a show is worth it
I was in line at the post office on Tuesday and the guy behind me said he gives every new show exactly 4 minutes before he bails, which sounded harsh until I tried it. I quit 3 shows I'd been dragging through for weeks and started 2 I actually finished in one sitting. So what's your cutoff, do you give a show a full episode or bail way earlier than that?
Man, who walks around timing a show like they're boiling an egg? The idea that 4 minutes tells you anything is just silly to me. Most good shows don't even get going until the second or third episode, so bailing that fast means you'd miss stuff like Breaking Bad or The Wire if you judged them off the first few scenes. And honestly, quitting 3 shows because some guy in a post office line gave you a rule isn't proof the rule works, it just means you were already looking for a reason to drop them. Watch what you like at your own speed and stop turning TV into a math problem, that's my take.
