That IMDb stat about The Wire season 2 caught me off guard

I always skipped season 2 of The Wire on rewatches because I thought the dock workers story was boring. Then I read a breakdown on The Ringer that showed season 2 actually has the highest average episode rating on IMDb for the whole series. That got me curious so I went back and watched it again last month at normal speed. Now I think I was wrong the first few times and I missed a lot of good scenes about the working class. Has anyone else had a change of heart about a season they used to avoid?

Totally feel you on that, maxpalmer, the duck thing was rough but I ended up appreciating the slow burn.

S1 finale "Sentencing" has a 9.5 and S4 "Final Grades" has a 9.6, both higher than anything in S2. The highest S2 episode is "Port in a Storm" at 9.2. So the average might be inflated by consistency, not peaks. The dock plotline still drags in the middle with Frank Sobotka's union stuff going nowhere for three episodes. Ziggy's duck story is painful to sit through. I'd rather rewatch S5 despite the fake serial killer nonsense because at least McNulty's downward spiral has momentum.
