Overheard a waiter say 'every show needs a slow episode to build character' and I almost threw my drink

I was at a diner last night and this server was arguing with a customer about why season 2 of The Bear dragged, and he actually said 'you need those quiet moments to make the chaos hit harder.' Has anyone else wanted to fast forward through a whole show just to skip the filler?

That waiter kinda has a point though, and I'm saying this as someone who used to fast forward through every "slow" episode. I did it with Better Call Saul season 1, skipped what I thought was boring setup, and then spent the next two seasons confused about why certain character moments hit different. Finally went back and watched it proper and it was like a whole new show. The Bear season 2 specifically, that Richie episode everyone called slow at first, that's now the one I rewatch the most. I guess sometimes you gotta sit through the quiet stuff to earn the payoff lol.

omg my roommate did the exact same thing with Better Call Saul. She skipped most of season 1 cause she was like "when does the lawyer stuff actually start" and then binge watched seasons 2 and 3 in a weekend. Then she started season 4 and had NO idea why Jimmy was so torn up about Chuck. She literally had to pause and google what happened. Finally went back and watched it all from the start and she said she felt so dumb for skipping the slow parts cause they made everything else make sense lol. The quiet episodes are the ones that stick with you I swear.
