Just realized why most shows flop after season 3

I binged 4 shows in a row this month that all went downhill right when they hit season 3. It's like clockwork. The writers run out of source material or the original plot gets wrapped up and they just start making up random drama. I was watching this one crime drama where season 1 and 2 were tight and focused, then season 3 introduced a long lost twin nobody ever mentioned. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with your favorite shows or am I just picking bad ones?

Oh yeah, the long lost twin thing is practically a rite of passage for shows that have no idea what to do anymore. Season 3 is basically the "let's throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks" phase. One show I loved had the main character suddenly discover a secret sibling who was hiding in the same city for twenty years without ever running into anyone. Classic.

Right, because wandering around the same city for decades never gets old, especially with that convenient plot armor.
