Just realized I'm the only person who hated Breaking Bad

Last month at a cookout in my buddy's backyard in Austin, this guy Dave started going on about how Breaking Bad is the greatest show ever made. I told him I couldn't get past season 2 and he looked at me like I kicked his dog. He actually said "you must have no taste then" and walked away to grab another beer. I stood there thinking about how everyone seems to worship that show but I found most of the characters insufferable and the pacing was a slog. Like yeah the acting was good but I just didn't care about a chemistry teacher making meth for two seasons straight. Dave came back five minutes later and tried to convince me to watch it again saying I missed the point. I told him I gave it 14 episodes and that should be enough to know if something clicks. Has anyone else had a friend get genuinely offended because you didn't like their favorite show?

Oh man, that story reminds me of this time my buddy Craig got legit mad at me for not liking The Wire. I watched like four episodes and told him it felt like homework, and he literally brought it up for three years straight every time we hung out. He'd be like "you just don't get the layers" and I'm like, I get it, I just don't like it lol. Some people tie their whole personality to a show and when you don't vibe with it they take it as a personal attack.

Gotta agree with @singh.blair on this one. It's wild how people treat media taste like some kind of moral test. I've seen the same thing with Breaking Bad, where if you say it's not your favorite show someone acts like you're defending Walter White's actions or something. Really makes you notice how many folks use shows, bands, or even coffee orders as a shortcut for their whole identity. Like bro, not liking The Wire doesn't mean I can't appreciate good storytelling, it just means I'd rather watch something that doesn't feel like a sociology lecture after work.
