I finally gave The Wire a second chance

I tried watching it back in 2017 and couldn't get past the first 3 episodes, thought it was way too slow. My buddy kept saying the season 4 school storyline was the best TV he'd ever seen, so I pushed through to episode 7 of season 1 and suddenly everything clicked. Has anyone else had a show that took multiple tries before it hooked you?

That thing about season 4 being the best TV ever is actually wrong. Season 4 is incredible no doubt, but season 3 with the Hamsterdam storyline is the true peak of the show. The way they showed how legalizing drugs in one area just shifted the problems somewhere else. Plus the whole Stringer Bell arc in season 3 is just masterful. You'll see when you get there. Season 4 is great but 3 is the one that sticks with you.

Season 3 is the one that sticks with you" - oh man, tell me about it. My buddy Dave still talks about the Hamsterdam thing like it happened to him personally lol. He got so into it that he actually drove to Baltimore one weekend to find the real spots where they filmed, ended up getting lost in some sketchy neighborhood and had to call his girlfriend to come pick him up at a gas station. The Stringer thing hits different when you've seen someone in real life try to act all corporate with illegal money too, reminds me of this guy from my old neighborhood who tried to run a legit car wash business but still had his cousin dealing on the side.

Wait, is @elliot_king on here telling us season 4 is the best while also saying season 3 is the best in the same breath? That's some Grade A fence-sitting right there, buddy. Dave's Baltimore adventure sounds like the most extra thing I've ever heard, like bro just watch the DVD extras like a normal person. Honestly though the Hamsterdam stuff makes you wonder if that car wash guy was actually trying to be Stringer or if he just really liked the water spots.
