Bought a 12 episode anime box set, only 6 discs were in the case
Last month I grabbed a complete series box set for $45 at a flea market in Portland. Got home, opened it up, and half the discs were missing, just empty slots where episodes 7 through 12 should be. The seller ghosted me when I messaged back, so now I'm stuck with half a story and a bitter ending. Has anyone else gotten burned on secondhand physical media like this, or am I just the unlucky one?

I once bought a "complete" DVD set of a show at a swap meet in Tacoma and got two copies of disc one and nothing else. The whole thing was a bootleg too, so the menus didn't even work right. It stings extra when you pay cash and there's no real receipt to fall back on. Your best bet might be checking if the case has a production code or UPC that matches a legit release, sometimes sellers don't even know what they're flipping.
