Appreciation post: Noticed something about how people talk about slow burn shows

Way too many folks call a show 'slow burn' just because nothing big happens in episode 1, but a real slow burn has payoff later, like how The Americans built tension across seasons before every big moment really hit.

Same here). I used to praise any show for being 'patient' but yeah payoff actually matters.

You ever watch a show that was patient and actually nailed it though? I get the frustration but I think slow burns get a bad rap now cause people binge everything. Like The Wire is basically all setup with payoff that takes seasons but nobody calls that boring because the journey itself is the point.
