Almost ruined my TV binging Ozark in one weekend

I was on episode 7 of season 3 last Saturday and my Fire Stick remote battery leaked all over the contacts. Tried using my phone as a remote but the app refused to connect to the TV in my basement. Ended up having to order a new remote from Amazon for $18 and waited 2 days to finish the show. Has anyone else had a streaming device die mid marathon like that?

My buddy literally had his Roku die during the finale of Chernobyl and he had to watch the last 15 minutes on his laptop screen with no sound because his headphones broke too. I felt so bad for him, that's a brutal way to end a show.

That bit about "watched the last 15 minutes on his laptop screen with no sound" is rough, but it points out something overlooked - most people don't have a backup plan for their smart TV setup. I keep a cheap $20 HDMI cable and an old laptop in a drawer specifically for this, since streaming sticks and their cheap crappy remotes fail all the time. It's not fancy but it beats scrambling to order parts or watching a cliffhanger on a phone screen.
