Took my cousin on the riverfront path and she asked why we go through the car wash section
She's visiting from out of town for the weekend. We took the 3 mile stretch from the old grain silos to the new bridge. That part where the path narrows to about two feet next to the grated drain, concrete walls on both sides, and cars spraying water over the curb at 35 mph. She stopped dead and asked if this was a joke. I've ridden that section every week for two years. Never thought twice about it until she said that. Now I can't stop noticing how bad it actually is. Has anyone else had an outside perspective completely change how they see their usual route?

That stretch by the drain is two feet? I measured it once out of boredom and got about 26 inches at the tightest point, so basically the same. The thing is, it's not really the car wash thing that's the problem, it's that the path was drawn back when that road was a 25 zone and nobody ever went back to fix the narrow part. Cars hit the puddle and spray because the drain backs up every time it rains, and the curb there is like four inches high, so the water just sheets right over it. Your cousin wasn't wrong, she just saw it without the muscle memory the rest of us have built up. Once you lose that, yeah, it's hard to unsee.
