The guy at the bike shop said something that stuck with me
He said 'the painted green lane isn't safe, it's just a decoration they can point at.' I saw a delivery van parked right in that green lane on 5th Street yesterday and realized he was right. How do you guys deal with drivers who treat bike lanes like loading zones?

Nah I kinda disagree. Those lanes do help even if they're not perfect. I've seen way less close calls since they painted them on my route. Yeah you still get the occasional parked car but without them drivers would just be passing me with no buffer at all.
