Rode 3 miles using only new protected bike lanes today
Last month our city finished a stretch of separated bike lanes along Main Street. For years I avoided that road because cars would buzz me. This morning I rode from the coffee shop at 7th Street all the way to the library at 10th Street without a single close call. It connects to the old trail by the river too. Has anyone else found that just a mile or two of good infrastructure makes a route feel completely different?

Man I used to be one of those people who thought bike lanes were a waste of money. Like I'd see them putting in the barriers and cones and just roll my eyes. But then my buddy convinced me to try riding down 8th street after they redid it with a protected lane last year. I went from cutting through the neighborhood and dodging garbage trucks every morning to actually enjoying my commute. That little stretch of a mile changed my whole route. I even started taking detours just to stay on the protected parts. Its wild how much difference a few feet of plastic bollards and some paint makes.
