My neighbor told me to stop riding on the sidewalk and take the lane on Clark St, he was actually right
I used to ride the sidewalk on Clark St every morning because the bike lane there is always full of delivery vans double parked. My neighbor Dave, who has been biking in Chicago for like 15 years, told me to just take the whole lane instead and stop hugging the curb. I tried it for two weeks and honestly the cars behind me just go around, nobody honks, and I haven't had a single close call with a car pulling out of a driveway. The sidewalk was actually more dangerous because of people backing out of alleys. Has anyone else switched to taking the lane and noticed drivers act different when you're not squeezed to the side?
