I finally chose the busy road over the painted bike lane this morning

Rode down Oak Street instead of using the bike lane on 5th because of all the parked delivery vans blocking it, and honestly the cars gave me more space than I expected, has anyone else just given up on a painted lane for a regular road?

Oh yeah, "chose the busy road over the painted bike lane" sounds like a badge of honor at this point. Those delivery vans basically turn the bike lane into their personal loading zone, so you're either dodging them or playing Frogger with car doors. I did the same thing on Maple Avenue last week and a guy in a truck actually waved me through an intersection. Way better than getting doored by someone who thinks the bike lane is just a suggestion.

Dude, yes! Exact same thing happened to me on Elm Street last week. That painted lane is basically a joke once you hit the morning rush, cars just use it as their own personal merge lane. I took the regular road instead and actually got a friendly honk from a guy in a minivan who let me take the whole lane at a stoplight. Felt way safer than hugging the curb with a delivery truck breathing down my neck.
