Warning: someone at my office said they skip helmet locks, saw 2 bikes gone in a week downtown
Overheard a guy in the break room bragging about just leaning his bike against the rack without locking the helmet or wheels because it's 'too much hassle'. Then yesterday he walked out to find his front wheel was gone, and his coworker said the same thing happened to her last Tuesday near the transit center. I always thought the quick release wheel thing was overblown, but if you park in a busy area like Austin for more than 30 minutes, grab a cheap cable for the wheels or swap to locking skewers. Has anyone else seen more theft near their office recently?

Read a post on a bike forum last week where a guy lost both wheels and the frame in broad daylight at a grocery store. Quick release parts are basically free money for thieves, takes them five seconds with zero tools. A cheap cable lock through the wheels and frame is worth the hassle, seen too many stripped bike racks to doubt it.
