Tried a mesh base layer for morning rides and it beat everything I owned
After like 2 summers of showing up soaked through, I grabbed one of those cheap mesh running tops at the discount outpost in Portland. Wore it under my thin button up for the 6 mile commute. Night and day. The wind goes right through when I'm cruising but the shirt keeps me from looking like a wet dog in the office. My old cotton tee would hold sweat for the whole ride, this thing dries in 10 minutes. Anyone else use base layers or do you just go full send and change at work?
Funny how the cheap stuff is usually what ends up working best. Same thing happened to me with socks of all things, grabbed a pack at a gas station on a road trip and now they're the only ones I trust. Most gear is just overpriced hype, the mesh top does the one job you actually need it to do. Half the battle with commuting is not soaking your work clothes, and a ten minute dry time is huge compared to cotton holding water all day. Feels like a lot of life is like that, small cheap fix beats the fancy expensive one you spent years ignoring.
