Spent $40 on a lightweight folding lock, now my commute is actually faster

I used to haul a heavy U-lock in my backpack every day and it threw off my balance on hills. Last month I grabbed a compact folding lock from a local shop for $40 and it clips right onto my frame. It's not as bomber as the big one, but for a quick coffee stop or gym run it's plenty. Anyone else ditch the heavy lock and regret it or are you like me and never looked back?

You really trust a $40 folding lock with your whole bike? I watched a guy pop one of those with a cheap screwdriver in about 20 seconds outside a grocery store last summer. My heavy U-lock has stopped two actual theft attempts, and one of them was a guy with a cordless angle grinder who gave up after five minutes. That folding lock might save you time on the ride, but it costs you way more time and money when your frame is gone and you're filling out a police report. The balance thing is just a matter of getting used to it. I'll take a sore shoulder over a missing bike any day.
