Pro tip: Skip the cooling vest and just bring a change of shirts
I bought one of those expensive cooling vests last summer thinking it was the answer to showing up dry at my office in Austin. After 3 weeks of using it, I found it just made me sweat more under the vest and the damp fabric stuck to my skin. The real hack for me was carrying a small backpack with two fresh t-shirts and a travel towel instead. I swap shirts at the office bathroom and air out the sweaty one on my bike rack for the ride home. That simple switch cost me like $15 for the extra shirts and zero battery packs. Has anyone else had bad luck with those cooling gadgets for commutes over 5 miles?

Whoa, I actually kinda liked my cooling vest though. It works way better if you get it wet first (like really soak it) before heading out, the evaporation keeps you cooler than just wearing it dry. Not trying to change your mind or anything, just saying the wetting trick made a big difference for me.
