Just realized my rain jacket was the reason I was sweating so much on my 12 mile commute
Read a post from a guy in Portland who said breathability ratings matter more than waterproofing for bike commuters, and after trying a $40 shell with vents instead of my $150 gore-tex one, I got to work dry for the first time in a month - has anyone else found a specific jacket that actually works for riding?

That's a hot take but I gotta push back here. A cheap jacket with vents might keep you dry from sweat but you're still getting wet if any real rain hits you for more than ten minutes. Gore-tex is expensive for a reason, and for a 12 mile ride you're gonna run into both uphill sweat and downhill rain, so a single cheap shell just can't handle that. Vents help sure but they also let water in if the design isn't tight, and most $40 jackets aren't built for that balance. You probably overheat in the gore-tex cause you're picking a winter weight one or layering wrong under it, not cause the fabric is bad.
