Guy locked his bike next to mine at the Fremont farmers market and pointed at my chain, been bugging me since
Was locking up near the market entrance last Saturday and a guy in a hi-vis vest looked at my rear cog and said my chain was so dry it was basically sandpaper. He was right, it had that light rusty dust all over it, and every pedal stroke on the way home felt like I was dragging something. A $6 bottle of chain lube and 10 minutes the next morning took care of it. How often do you all re-lube, every ride or just when it starts sounding rough?
Does it actually sound rough or are you just paranoid about rust? For me it depends on the weather, since riding in the rain washes the lube off fast and I have to redo it after every wet ride. Dry sunny days I get a couple weeks out of one lube job before the chain starts making noise.
