Folding my pannier wrong for 4 years.

I always just clipped my Topeak pannier to the rack and rode. Finally last week a random guy at a light told me I had the hooks backwards. Now the bag sits flush and doesn't wobble at all. Who else had a simple setup fail like that?

Honestly that "doesn't wobble" part got me, because mine never sat right either and I just thought it was normal.

The hook alignment thing is one of those gotchas, but I think the bigger issue is how most pannier instructions are basically useless. @charlesb42's point about the wobble being normalized shows how we all just put up with bad setups. What gets me is that the design itself isn't intuitive - you have to know the hook should hook under the rack tube, not just sit on top. A lot of people probably never realize their bags are shifting around because they just accept the movement as part of riding. Simple fix, but the manual should just show a picture from the side instead of that isometric view nobody can figure out.
