Why does nobody talk about how quick link pliers are basically useless on seized chains?
Last week I spent 20 minutes wrestling with a stubborn SRAM quick link on a rusty chain before a buddy handed me a pair of needle nose pliers and snapped it open in 5 seconds, has anyone else found a better trick for getting those stuck ones apart?

My record is 45 minutes with a SRAM link on a grimy CX bike. I ended up just cutting the chain with a bolt cutter and buying a new one. Now I carry a tiny flathead screwdriver in my pack just for this.

Fellow sufferer with SRAM links here. Had one pop off in a muddy race and spent what felt like forever fishing it out of the grass. Now I just carry a spare quick link in my jersey pocket for the inevitable fail.
