Vent: Just found out Shimano charges $45 for ONE brake hose banjo bolt at a dealer in Austin

I was rebuilding a customer's XT brakes yesterday and stripped one of those tiny banjo bolts. Figured I'd just grab a replacement from the shop down the street. The guy behind the counter laughed and said $45. I thought he was joking. No, that's the wholesale price for a single bolt from Shimano. You can get a whole set of aftermarket ones on Amazon for $8. What the hell is Shimano thinking with these prices? Has anyone else run into this nonsense?

Right? I had the exact same thing happen with a rear derailleur hanger bolt and couldn't believe they wanted thirty bucks for a piece of threaded aluminum. How do they justify that kind of markup on something so basic?

Haven't you ever tried to warranty something through Shimano though? Their customer service is a nightmare but once you jump through their hoops they'll send you the whole part for free. I'd rather pay $45 once than deal with aftermarket bolts that might not hold up on a trail ride. What's more important to you, saving money or having the right part that won't fail?
