Vent: Eyeballing chain stretch works just fine for me

My coworker always pulls out a gauge to measure chain wear. I can see when a chain is shot without any tool. Last week, I caught a bad chain just by looking at it. He insists on numbers, but my method never fails. It saves time and cash for our clients.

Why do we always have to overcomplicate things with tools? Experience tells you way more than some number on a gauge ever will.

Ever notice how people will use an app for something their own two eyes can do better? It's like we're training ourselves to ignore what's right in front of us just because a screen gives us a number. Your coworker with the gauge is the same guy who needs a calculator to figure out a 20% tip. We're losing the feel for things, trusting tech over our own gut and experience. That's why basic skills are dying out, because everyone thinks the answer has to come from a device. Good on you for keeping the old school method alive.
