The $12 Park Tool cable cutter I bought beat my $60 fancy pair in every way after 6 months of shop use
My old pair started fraying brake cables on the third cut but this cheap one still slices clean through shift housing like butter, has anyone else found a random budget tool that outperforms the fancy stuff?

I mean, the cheap ones just work sometimes.

Oh man, I feel your pain on this one... I had a set of fancy Park Tool pliers that just couldn't hold up to daily use. The cable fraying drove me nuts after just a few cuts. Meanwhile, my buddy gave me this no-name side cutter from a hardware store bin for like $8, and it's still going strong two years later. It sounds ridiculous but sometimes the simple stuff just works... maybe because they don't overthink the design or try to use fancy materials that end up being worse. It's almost like a secret handshake among mechanics when you find one of those hidden gems.
