Swapped to a KMC chain and learned my shifters were the real problem
After chasing a skipping cassette for weeks on a 2018 Trek Domane, I threw a new KMC X11 on there. Turns out the chain was fine, my 105 shifters had worn out internally and were barely pulling enough cable. Had to replace the whole shifter assembly at $85 a side. Anybody else had shifters wear out way before the drivetrain parts?

$85 a side for 105s? Sounds about right for that "budget friendly" Shimano life. Wouldn't be surprised if they start charging per click soon.

Hold on, that $85 a side sounds steep for 105 shifters. I picked up a pair of R7000 shifters for about $200 total last year, so maybe check around for a better price before you pull the trigger. KMC chains are solid, but yeah, the shifters themselves can definitely be the weak link in modern drivetrains.
